Why Teletherapy Works

The global telehealth market is projected to reach $19.5 billion by 2025, according to a report from market intelligence company Transparency Market Research. Teletherapy offers patients and therapists convenience, flexibility, and greater access to care. Some people who are faced with physical disabilities, or who live in certain geographic areas far away from clinics greatly benefit from teletherapy services. Many clients like teletherapy because they can access services from the comfort of their own home without being hassled by traffic, parking, and other physical barriers. Research has shown that teletherapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy. And it's fun! Technology has advanced to such an extent that speech therapists are able to create exciting, state of the art backgrounds and other materials to engage their clients. Speech therapy delivered virtually can be especially effective while mask mandates are in place. Wearing masks during in-person therapy sessions can be challenging because both parties miss out on critical visual and verbal cues which negatively impacts communication. Teletherapy is an excellent choice for school aged children working on language and articulation, and is also an excellent choice for adults who are medically fragile or enjoy the convenience teletherapy offers.
